Crabby Tales

My Henry’s Story

Henry was found roaming in someone’s backyard. They gave him to a girl named Joanne, who volunteers for a no-kill cat shelter. Joanne didn’t know what he was. She had never seen a hermit crab before. He was in a fancy painted shell. She put him in a huge plant pot with sticks and leaves from outside and started looking for information on the internet.

I believe she contacted Vanessa somehow and Vanessa got in touch with me because she knew I lived in Massachusetts. Because of our schedules, it took about a week before were able to meet so I could pick him up. In the meantime, I was giving Joanne information on what he needed, i.e. temperature, humidity, food, water, etc. She cared for him well. He spent a few days in her jacuzzi in the master bedroom where it was warm and humid.

Joanne named him Henry and sent me a picture of him. When we finally met, I picked him up and he began chirping. It was sooooo cute. One of his leg tips was dangling. It eventually fell off on its own. I picked him up on July 27,2002. We each drove about an hour. We met at a shopping mall. I’d love to write to the paper there to try to find out more about him and how he ended up in someone’s backyard.
